Biography

Soni is a PhD Candidate at the University of Queensland and a Senior Lead auditor with ten years of prior experience in the seafood processing industry, working as the head of the quality assurance department and successfully implementing and leading food safety and quality management systems. She is a IRCA Certified ISO 22000:2018 (Food safety), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental) lead auditor. She works as a Senior Lead auditor doing Marine Stewardship Council/ Aquaculture Stewardship Council (MSC/ASC) Chain of Custody certification audits and ASC farm assessments for Shrimp, Bivalve/Abalone, and Marine Cages standards for Green Marketing Concepts Australia, an affiliate of SCS Global Services. Soni received her Master’s in Industrial Fisheries from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2008. Her research interest is in fisheries, aquaculture, post-harvest handling, food processing, food safety and food security. She is very passionate about the seafood industry and the role it plays in ensuring the sustainability of resources and food security. Her career goal is to impart the gained knowledge and expertise to contribute toward the targets of Goal 2 “Zero Hunger”, Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production” and Goal 14 “Life Below Water” of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
