Biography
Visiting Professor of Maritime Archaeology at Dalian Maritime University's Centre for Maritime History and Culture Research, Sarah is recognised by UNESCO as one of Asia Pacific’s most distinguished and experienced experts in the field of underwater cultural heritage.
An accomplished Principal Investigator and skilled Project Director, Sarah has 17-years experience in maritime and underwater archaeology, historic shipwrecks, heritage conservation, interpretation, and capacity building through outreach, education, and stakeholder engagement.
A certified Commercial Diver (Surface Supplied and SCUBA), Sarah holds a PhD in Archaeological Heritage Management from the University of Leiden (Netherlands), a Master of Maritime Archaeology with distinction from the University of Southampton (England), a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland (Australia) and supporting qualifications in Maritime Law (University of Sydney, Australia), Heritage Conservation (Flinders University, Australia) Environmental Impact Assessment (University of Oxford, England), Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology (Nautical Archaeology Society, UK).Â
A two-time Telstra Womens Award Nominee (2017-2018), Sarah received a prestigious MIT Ocean Discovery Fellowship in 2018. A 2016 Asialink Leader, she has been a selection panelist for the Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarships since 2017.
