Biography
Known as the "Fish Whisperer," Penelope is a marine ecologist and aquarist who studies fish behaviour and how the environmental influences their learning abilities. She has over 15 years' experience in the aquarium industry, where she gained useful knowledge and skills working with an array of aquatic mammals, fish, and invertebrates. She is passionate about science communication, and changing public perception about animal sentience: in fact, you may have seen her chatting about octopus intelligence on Studio10!
For Penelope, there is no greater adventure than minds working collaboratively towards a common goal, and her enthusiasm for aquatic animals has seen her involved in several species conservation efforts.
As a Latina in STEM, she is passionate about equality in the sciences and currently freelances as an editor and scientific reviewer for ESL researchers worldwide.
