Biography
A/Prof Melanie MacGregor completed a Maters of chemical engineering in 2008 and a PhD in materials engineering in 2013. In 2017 she was appointed as a Santos-UCL Senior Research fellow at the Future Industries Institute, UniSA. She is now an ARC Future Fellow and Matthew flinders Fellow in chemistry at Flinders university. For her translational work on (bio)materials for diagnostic devices development, she received the 2017 Winnovation awards, Engineering category, and a 2018 SA Young Tall Poppy Science Award. As an enthusiastic ambassador of diversity in the STEM sector, Melanie is also part of the 2019 SuperStar of STEM cohort.
Her broad research focus is the effects of surface chemistry and nanotopography on the interaction between (bio) materials, proteins and cells primarily to address challenges faced by the biomedical device industry.
Melanie identifies as culturally and linguistically diverse.
