Biography

Dr. Maria Angelica "Angel" Rea is pioneering a new area of radiological research by combining traditional radiological assessment with genomics methods to minimize the impact of mining operations. She has a solid track-record of research in geochemistry (biogeochemistry), biodiversity, and genomics. She graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2018 and received her Ph.D. with Dean’s Commendation for Thesis Excellence on her work on the biogeochemical cycling of gold which established the link of microorganisms in the global gold cycle. Findings of her PhD research helped predict gold transport in natural systems and improve the use of biogeochemical models in exploration and biomining technologies.

Maria Angelica identifies as culturally and linguistically diverse.
