Biography
A Senior Research Fellow with the Vascular Biology group at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD), Monash University, I am the group’s scientific lead and manage a team of five people. With significant experience in thrombosis and brain injury, I am an expert in bridging the fields of Haematology and Neuroscience to answer key research questions regarding development of new treatments for stroke, brain injury and inflammation in the brain.
My research output is evidence that I am an emerging leader in medical research. I have 21 publications (5 years full-time equivalent; adjusted to career disruptions), of which 20 are basic research papers (five as first author and four as co-senior author). My post-doctoral research has directly led to 4 successful NHMRC project grants ($2million). I have been a named chief investigator on 4 Category II grants amounting to ~$150,000. I co-supervise 3 PhD students and have earlier co-supervised 2 PhD students (PhDs awarded Oct 2018).
My contribution to the community focuses on promoting STEM to children. As a ‘CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools’ partner I actively work with schools to promote an interest in STEM, with a special emphasis on inspiring young girls. I also have a strong passion for increasing gender diversity in science and serve as co-chair of the Monash University Central Clinical School Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Commitee.
