Biography
Kate Hayward is a Senior Research Fellow in Stroke Recovery in the Department of Physiotherapy (Driving Research Momentum Fellow). She currently holds a NHMRC Early Career Research Fellowship (2016-2020) and has an appointment in the Stroke Theme, Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
Her research seeks to understand the brain-behaviour nexus during rehabilitation after stroke. Using early phase clinical trial designs, Kate studies when is the ideal time to start therapy after stroke and how much therapy should be provided. Her research program also seeks to elucidate who stands to benefit most from therapy. She has been an inaugural member of the international Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtables, which have produced new global recovery science recommendations . She is currently a member of the Stroke Society of Australasia Executive, co-chairs the Emerging Stroke Clinician and Scientist Special Interest Group, and is a guideline review member of the Australian stroke guideline taskforce.
