Biography
My name is Jerusha. I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in my birthplace, Sri Lanka, where doctors told my family that I would never walk or talk. When I was young, we moved to Australia, where I had the opportunity to receive therapy that significantly improved my ability to walk and speak.
Today, I am a PhD student in medical sciences, researching the effects of exercise and brain stimulation on adults with cerebral palsy. In addition to my academic work, I am a published poet and an advocate for medical students with disabilities.
My journey has been featured in various media outlets, including ABC News, Women’s Agenda, WHO, and Take 5. I have also shared my story and experiences with organizations such as World Vision, Future Female, and the Australian Academy of Sciences.
Jerusha identifies as having a disability.
