Biography
Janet Wiles received her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sydney, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Psychology. She has been involved in research and teaching in cognitive science, complex systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, visualisation and social robotics. Her research has spanned cognitive, biological and neuroscience modelling using high fidelity biological mechanisms (neural, learning and evolutionary) and their embodiment in robots. She currently leads a multidisciplinary team studying social robotics and bio-inspired computation, and leads the Future Technologies Thread of the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language, which is developing new tools for linguists, the Discursis system for analysis of communication, and social and language technologies to support people with dementia and their carers.
