Dr. Bita Zaferanloo

Microbial Biotechnologist and STEM Advocate

Dr. Bita Zaferanloo is a leading microbial biotechnologist whose innovative research harnesses nature’s potential to tackle global challenges like climate change and cancer treatment. With a PhD in Chemistry and Biotechnology from Swinburne University, her work spans bioactive compounds from Australian native plants to AI-driven sustainability solutions, such as high-tech composting systems for organic waste.

As the founder of the Shaping STEM Futures program, Bita has empowered over 1,000 students through science communication training, fostering future-ready, sustainable solutions. Her dedication has earned multiple awards for teaching excellence and impactful initiatives.

A passionate advocate for diversity in STEM, she creates inclusive learning environments and collaborates internationally to break barriers. Dr. Zaferanloo’s mission is to inspire action and amplify science's role in building a sustainable future through interdisciplinary innovation and public engagement.
