Biography
I am passionate and fully committed to doing research that makes a real difference to peoples' lives and I am currently leading two suicide research programs. The first is learning from those with lived experience of suicide. Focus is on how peers support each other via online forums. Adopting the position that support is interactional in nature, the aim is to learn from those with lived experiences by explicating how support is gained and provided to those experiencing a suicidal crisis.
The second program focuses on suicide in sport. This is a new program that is currently examining whether sport is a protective factor against suicide for menopausal women. Its aim is to identify if there are aspects of the sport context that may protect menopausal women from developing suicidal thoughts and/or acting on these.
