STEM Women Café conversations: Next Gen STEM

We’re excited to announce the theme of our next series of Café meetups will be Next Gen STEM looking at how we can all encourage more of the next gen – particularly girls and younger women – into STEM.

The STEM Women team is collaborating with the Academy’s Education team to create an informative, playful and… dare we say…. educational experience with some practical take-aways about how to engage with schools or education programs in the most meaningful way.

We’ll be hearing from some leading experts to help us unpack the latest research in STEM education, and we’ll also be trying out some tools and techniques for how to make engagement count.

There will be two 1-hour sessions, each one featuring a different special guest interview to frame our discussions.

Session 1: Monday 25 October from 1.30pm - 2.30pm AEDST | Register

Coral Campbell and Linda Hobbs from Deakin University will join us to explore recent STEM reports, ‘Girls’ Future – Our Future’, from The Invergowrie Foundation looking at STEM career advice, role models in STEM and addressing unconscious bias in primary STEM education.

Session 2: Monday 1 November from 1.30pm - 2.30pm AEDST | Register *This is a new date*

Robyn Bull from the Wonder of Science school initiative will join us to talk about her experience in preparing and supporting Young Science Ambassadors to engage with schools, and what we can all learn about communication, mentoring and role-modelling.

As with previous Café sessions, you'll also have the chance to interact with other participants in small group discussion mode, and our fab colleagues from Education will also be on-hand for questions and feedback.

To join us for these sessions, please click on the relevant 'register' link - this will take you directly to the Zoom registration area for each session.

We look forward to seeing you!
